#156 Mullins Cemetery-AKA City View Cemetery

Posted on

Smyrna Quadrangle.  1 3/4 miles west of Smyrna on a hill just north of the old Nashville Highway.

This is not all of this cemetery.  Jeff and I found two VERY large snakes, then ran out of film.  While trying to upload the pictures to the computer, the computer would not boot.  So we decided to call it a day.  Hope to finish the cemetery soon.

I have several ancestors buried in this cemetery in unmarked graves.

I have not been there in several years.  I might know someone that has been there in the last year or so that might be able to shed some light on the safety of the cemetery in regards to the snakes.

Thanks. Do you know if it was their property the cemetery was built on? Was it a private or public cemetery. I have a lot of family buried there, but don’t have any idea how they would have been related to the Mullins Family. The graves aren’t marked, but death certificates state they were buried in Mullins Cemetery. Descendants still help clean the cemetery.

Glad you are enjoying the site. Not all of Mullins got photographed by the way. We found HUGE and I do mean HUGE snakes in the back part of the cemetery and finally decided to stop. One snake was twice the height of my 6 foot husband. When he held it up on a tree limb and it was longer than he was tall I said, I am leaving.
Luckily it was very hot and the snakes very slow moving. But a snake is a snake is a snake. LOL

I don’t know if it was Mullins property or not, I will try to find out. I have always heard there were snakes on the property. My mother use to go to the cemetary all the time to put flowers on my grandparents/ her parents graves, (Marion and Leola) before she had to be put in a Nursing facility

          generationsgoneby responded:
          7 March 2011 at 3:48 pm

Oh, yeah, I can testify to the snakes. Big ones. The cemetery as you know is very wooded and doesn’t get a lot of visitors.

BTW, Lee Ola and Marion’s son Walter Lee was born on Sept. 20 and my duaghter Katrina Joanne Tucker was born on Sept. 20 which was the same date that Lee Ola was born. I spelled her name Leola in my previous post as that was the way I was always told it was spelled but I see on the Tombstone that it was spelled Lee Ola. I need to go to the Mullins cemetary as I haven’t been there in years.

My name is Ronald Clay Tucker. I am the grandson of Marion Nelson Mullins and Leola. My mother is Mai Belle Mullins Tucker/Handley. My mother is still alive at the age of 92. There is one other surviving child of Marion and Leola, her name is Audrey Mullins Cantrell. I was only a little over 3 years but I remember it just like yesterday when my grandfather died. Most people called my grandfather Nelson not Marion. All the children of Marion and Leola were:
    Wesley F Mullins
    Walter Lee Mullins
    George E Mullins (georgie)
    Clyde N Mullins
    Mai Belle Mullins
    Lillian Mullins
    Audrey Mullins

I am the grandaughter of Polly Lammon Merritt, my mother was Florence Cora Marie Merritt Goodfred. Her brother was Richmond fb Merritt. He was killed at the Battle of the Bulge during WWII. The Baby Tammy Vaughn is the great grandaughter of Polly. She was a stillborn born to Kenneth Vaughn son of Vera Gertrude Merritt Vaughn. My cousin Donald Merritt(son of Charles Merritt) just informed me today that the cemetery was is terrible shape and needed the grass cut. He and his brother Wayne cut part of it today! I guess we must be related to you through the Lanmons.
